Step 0 Welcome — What to expect

Step 1 Unbox & inspect

Open the package on a clean surface. Confirm the packaging seal is intact and the device shows no visible damage. Your box should include:

• Hardware device
• USB cable and adapter (if applicable)
• Recovery card or paper

If anything looks tampered with, stop and contact official support immediately — do not proceed.

Step 2 Connect your device

Plug the device into your computer or compatible mobile adapter. Wait for the device display to power on. You will see a welcome screen and a prompt to visit the Start setup site from a trusted browser.

Step 3 Firmware verification

Before you create any keys, the device will check its firmware. This step ensures the device is running authentic, untampered software.

1. Follow on-screen prompts to allow a firmware check.
2. If an update is required, confirm and allow the device to update.
3. After update, the device will reboot and re-run the integrity check.

Step 4 Create your PIN

Pick a PIN you'll remember but others won't guess. The device displays a pin-pad shuffle or matrix to make observation attacks harder.

• Choose a PIN of at least 6 digits (longer is better).
• Do not write the PIN on the recovery card.
• If someone watches while you enter it, consider restarting the setup in private.

Step 5 Record your recovery phrase

This is the most critical part. The device will generate a recovery phrase (often 12, 18, or 24 words). Write those words exactly in order on the recovery card provided or on a secure metal backup product.

Step 6 Confirm and verify

After recording the phrase, the device will ask you to confirm some words to verify accuracy. Follow the prompts carefully. Once verified, your wallet will be ready to create addresses and receive funds.

Tip: Perform a small test transaction first — send a tiny amount from another wallet and confirm it on the device before moving larger amounts.

Step 7 Extra security & optional features

Consider adding optional security features to strengthen your setup:

• Passphrase (hidden wallet): adds an extra secret word to your seed — treated like a second password. Use only if you fully understand the implications.
• Multi-device setup: for advanced users, combine with multisig for higher security and shared control.
• Metal backup: resistant to fire/water for long-term storage of your recovery words.

Troubleshooting

If something doesn’t work:

• Restart the device and your computer, then reconnect.
• Ensure USB drivers and the browser are up to date.
• If the device reports a firmware mismatch or tampering, disconnect and contact official support.

If you ever lose your device, the recovery phrase is all you need to restore your funds on a new compatible device — so protect it carefully.
